Technically still Monday...

 23 February 2009

and here's a layout, as promised. And look, it's another 'friend' layout! ;p I didn't plan it like that, I swear. And honestly, I didn't do much scrapping at all this weekend, ( I know, the horror!) so I kind of cheated and scraplifted one of my own pages from a while back. ;p I know there's nothing wrong with that, but this layout just isn't speaking to me, probably because I've btdt.. No reinventing the wheel with this one. Ah well, I did get to use my new American Crafts, and it's pretty darned yummy stuff, all of it. I'm thinking I need to tone down my pages a bit, so maybe the next one will be with more subdued colours. Can't promise that though.. I do like my colour on the bright side...

(late) Friday goodness.

 20 February 2009

It's quiet here. So much so that it's kind of weird. But in a good way. ;p My kids and hubby left this afternoon for their annual winter Cub Scout camping weekend, and I'm sitting here after a decent ( kind of cardboard-y, but tasty all the same if that's possible) meal of Kashi frozen pizza and a few glasses of Chardonnay ( strictly medicinal of course!) b/c I figured I should update this thing more than once a week.

I've had an unplanned work off of week b/c of this:

My little guy Noah Boa has been sick with a fever virus all week. It got to this temp yesterday morning, and that's when I decided to take him to the doctor to make sure my 'Mom' radar was still working okay. It was, as I suspected, just a virus, and I'm happy to say that his fever finally broke this morning, just in time for him to go to camp, so we had one pretty ecstatic Cub on our hands. I guess the prospect of staying home with Mom all weekend wasn't very exciting. Dude, it wasn't for me either. ;p

He spent the majority of his time off school here, in my bed. It's so much nicer than his, as he always likes to tell me.

While home all week, I got some major cleaning done... stuff that should be done on a regular basis, but that never happens b/c of lack of time and/ or energy. So I cleaned the boy's room while he sorted out his huge collection of Legos. Here's an after pic of his bookcase. I did a purge of outgrown, baby-ish books, and now have a nice pile for Goodwill, even though a part of me mourns giving those books away. I'm not really good at parting with things from their babyhood, but it has to be done I guess. We can't keep everything, even though I would if I had enough space to house it all.

I keep wanting to post about my favourite Christmas present, so I took a photo of it today to show you, b/c I've been making a lot of smoothies lately in an attempt to ward off this superbug. I hadn't ever heard about this thing before I got it, but my oldest seemed to know what it was right off the bat ( maybe he watches late night infommercials while I sleep?) and he was hooting for joy when I opened it up during our family gift exchange on Christmas night. We've used it everday since, and we all love it. Total MB fans here! The kids have their smoothies every morning before school, and then they come home from school and make more. It's very cool and so easy for them to use. I totally recommend it! It's something I would have NEVER bought myself, so I'm very grateful for the shopping prowess of my sister in law Jocelyne. She always buys the best gifts, and I was lucky to have picked hers.

More goodness: These came in the mail this week...

It's the first time I've ever ordered tickets online, and it was a thrill when they arrived in my mailbox. I've been listening to this album everyday for weeks on end now, and I love it. Can't get enough of his beautiful voice and lyrics. I cannot WAIT to see him live! And more mail goodness came my way last night when the UPS man delivered my American Crafts DT box, but I won't post a photo of that, b/c I don't want to make you all hate me. ;p

And lastly, a ( blurry) photo of some valentine's tulips I got last Saturday. They were on their last legs when I took this photo, but they're beautiful nonetheless. They're my absolute favourite flower, and a sure sign that Spring is around the corner.

Is that enough random blabber for ya? I'm off to scrap now, and will be back with a layout or 2 on Monday. Enjoy your weekend, wherever you are!

Monday layout, part deux

 16 February 2009

Here's my layout for today, based loosely on a sketch from Cathy Z for the DYL class I took back in October of last year. I'm still catching up on most of that class, so alot of the layouts you'll see here in the future will be my attempts at getting those done.

I'm also still having a love affair with these clear stickers from American Crafts. I don't usually exhaust any supply I have, just because I'm lucky enough to have a large enough selection of stuff to choose from, but I adore the Moda Bella line, and have used it alot... in fact, I'm proud to say I've now used up an entire sheet of this heart paper, which is a huge feat for me, for those who know me and my penchant for little strips of paper. ;p

Happy Monday to all of you, hope it's not too painful!

eta: Just found out this page has made LOTD over on 2 Peas, woot!

Am I the last one to see this? I love, love , love it.

Brilliant. :)

Layout day

 09 February 2009

Put your sunglasses on for this one.. it's bright.
I think it's even brighter irl, but I took this photo last night, and was too lazy to re-do it this morning. Used some of the Teen line from AC on this.. it's surprisingly versatile for boys, even though there's a lot of pink in it. I don't mind pink on boy pages, but it has to be vibrant, and this is pretty vibrant, don't you think? ;p I'm going to be bold and say I'm going to try and post a layout here every Monday.. I seem to get stuff done only on the weekends, and it may push me to scrap more if I have to produce here. ;p So hold me to it, will ya?

Have a great Monday!

Friday good things.

 06 February 2009

A few things I'm happy about today:

1.I had the day off today, and so did the kids. And we all slept in until 9:30 this morning. Ahhhh!
We've spent a great day together so far, playing cards, Xbox, going sliding, and me even doing some scrapping. I'm hoping I can finish up those layouts soon and post them. Even though I'm a very simple scrapper, it sometimes takes me days to finish a page. So sad, isn't it? ;p On tonight's agenda is hockey on the tube. It's Montreal-Buffalo, which is always a good match up.

Here's a pic of my hockey dudes from the other day.

and one of the dog for good measure.

Yes, it's *that* snowy here, and we're all getting just a tad fed up.

2. Tickets to Ray Lamontagne's show went on sale today at noon. And at 12:00pm on the nose, I logged onto Ticketmaster and scored 2 seats to see him on April 14th. My birthday is the day after, so this is my gift to me! I can't wait.

3. I bought this lens at an amazing price from my friend who's upgrading to the Nikon 50-1.4 VR that just came out. I can't wait to have it in my hands tomorrow! His is the older metal model, and it's a beauty of a lens.

4. I think I finally found a paper trimmer that cuts straight, something I've been looking for forever! I've tried so many, and wasted my $ on ones I hate. It's this one, and it's awesome.

5. And finally, I saw this today on 2Peas, and did quite the double take when I saw my face on this ad...

Steph was kind enough to email me the screen capture of it- I had tried in vain to find it because I swear, I thought I was dreaming! ;p There's a ton of fun contests going on at 2Peas this month, including this guest garden girl spot, so head on over there and try a few.. I'm hoping I can join in on the online crop tonight.

I'll leave you with a happy card I made today, and hopefully the layouts will soon follow suit.. ;p

Enjoy the weekend!

My lovely assistant's pick...

 04 February 2009

I did the draw old school-like, wrote everyone's name down, folded them up, and got Bob (dh) to draw the name out of an empty kleenex box. ( Noah's makeshift banjo sans the rubberbands..) Unfortunately, dear hubby wasn't about to let me take his photo, so you'll have to trust me on that.

the winner is.....

Oh Mel,That page you did of your son is just wonderful!I love your cards as well, I have never even made one card :(Anyway...a fantasy gift? How vain am I?A total body make-over/plastic surgery. And I'm not kidding. lol
February 1, 2009 8:52 AM

Who I'm quite sure doesn't need a full body make-over, but it was a cute answer nonetheless. I definitely wouldn't mind a little love from Stacy & Clinton myself! ;p

Jody, please email me at melanie.louette@gmail.com with your contact info, and I'll get this boxed up and sent to you over the weekend, hopefully in time for Valentine's day!

Thanks for playing along- I loved reading all your comments. I wish I could send all of you something. :)

I will be back Friday with a few layouts & etc, if I can wrestle the computer away from my kids, who have the day off from school. ( did I mention I need my own laptop?!)
